    • How should I return the products?

      1) We cannot issue refund on blinds that have already been installed, therefore we do not recommend the return in these cases. The reason behind is, that already installed blinds shall not be considered re-sellable anymore

      2) You must return the blind in the original packaging. The packaging must be properly sealed and closed. The different parts that come with the blind such as screw drivers have to be placed in their original bags. Make sure that there are not any loose parts in the packaging before you return it.

If these criteria are not fulfilled, the blind is considered “sold” and no exchange or refund will be given. We strongly recommend that you use registered post, recorded delivery or another secure method of delivery, retaining the postal receipt until you have received credit for your return, as we cannot be held responsible for non-delivery of returned goods.

  • Itzala vs. VELUX blinds
    • What is the most significant difference between Itzala and VELUX blackout blinds?

VELUX blackout blinds are top quality blinds that offer 100% blackout – night or day, as well as effective heat protection. VELUX blackout blinds are made from a dirt-resistant polyester with a special aluminium coating on the back, that helps retain heat in the winter and reflect solar heat in the summer. They come in a wide range of colours with or without patterns, and you can choose between a manual or remote control operated edition. The blind runs in slim top and side channels in aluminium and can be positioned anywhere in the window. The side channels are painted black on the inside to prevent light from passing in around the edges. The VELUX blackout blinds purchased through the VELUX online shop have a three-year guarantee.

Itzala blackout blinds are quality blinds that can be offered at a lower price as they are manufactured in bulk. They offer almost complete darkness and are very easy to use. The fabric is a hardwearing, dirt-resistant combination of polyester and lightproof rubber. Itzala blinds come in three different colours. The blind fits into and slides in a slim aluminium frame that allows multi-positioning of the blind. Itzala blackout blinds purchased through the VELUX online shop have a two-year guarantee.

    • What is the most significant difference between Itzala and VELUX venetian blinds?

Itzala and VELUX venetian blinds are easy to clean and are well suited for kitchens and bathrooms where humidity levels can be high.

VELUX venetian blinds allow you to control the amount and direction of incoming light in a room – even when the window is open. The slats have no holes, which prevents unwanted light from entering the room. You can choose from 2 classic colours, and manual or remote controlled blinds. The tilting grip on the manually operated blind can be placed at preferred operation height. The VELUX venetian blind comes with a three years' guarantee.

Venetian blinds from Itzala are value blinds that allow you to adjust the amount and direction of light in a room. They are available in white and have a cordless operation system. Itzala venetian blinds purchased through the online shop have a two-year guarantee.

    • What is the most significant difference between Itzala and VELUX roller blinds?

The VELUX roller blind is available in 15 different colours and patterns. It has a stepless positioning system, which means that it can be positioned anywhere in the window. VELUX roller blinds are available in a manually operated and remote controlled version. VELUX roller blinds run in side channels made of natural anodised aluminium. These channels ensure smooth operation, free positioning of the blind and prevent light from passing in around the edges. VELUX manually operated roller blinds with hooks come without top and side lists and can be positioned in three different heights. The VELUX roller blind comes with a three-year guarantee.

The Itzala roller blind is a low cost value option that comes in two colours: dark blue and beige. The blind has a robust roller mechanism and a tri-positional window clip. Itzala roller blinds purchased through the online shop have a two-year guarantee.

    • Which blind should I choose if I have an out of reach window?

If you have an out of reach window we recommend you choosing a VELUX blind. Note that Itzala blinds are not compatible with the extension pole for blind control - VELUX Rod (ZCT 200k).

    • What is the most significant difference between Itzala and VELUX awning blinds?

Itzala and VELUX awning blinds reduce the amount of heat in a room while diffusing incoming light. The awning blind effectively reduces the heat intake in your room by reducing the amount of direct sunlight. They can also dampen the noise of rain. Both the VELUX and Itzala awning blinds are available in a black transparent net only - the VELUX awning allows 14% light transmittance.

The VELUX awning is available in a manually operated version as well as a solar powered and electrically operated version both with remote control and stepless positioning. VELUX awning blind comes with a three-year guarantee.

The Itzala awning blind is available with manual operation with hooks only. Itzala awning blinds purchased through the online shop have a two-year guarantee.

  • Payment, prices and discounts
    • Can you offer any additional discount on bulk order?

No. We already manufacture Itzala products in bulk which is how we keep the prices so low. The price on VELUX products is already 37% cheaper than if you buy them from VELUX directly.

    • How do I get the price of the blind that I require?

Prices vary depending on your window type, choice of blind, colour etc., you will need to go through the entire process of selecting your blinds to get the correct price. Please note however that you save 37 % off the VELUX list price on all VELUX blinds in the e-shop, and that Itzala blinds are low cost alternatives to the genuine VELUX blind. For more information about international delivery go to international delivery section.

  • Accessories for hard-to-reach situations and safety
    • Adaptors

If you have a rod control and would like to use this to open and close your blind we recommend that you attach an adaptor to the bottom of your blind. Please bear in mind that you will require a separate adaptor for each blind you have.

    • Opening restrictor with key

With the opening restrictor (an easy-to-install safety catch) you can regulate the extent to which your VELUX roof window opens, which is very handy if you e.g. want to make ensure that no one accidentally fall out of the window. A special key allows you to release the window for cleaning. The window is still capable of being opened to provide ventilation when the restrictor in place. Please note that the restrictor cannot be used on VELUX top-hung emergency escape roof windows: GPL, GPU, GHL, GHU.

    • Security lock

If you are considering enhancing the security of your home, you can purchase a window security lock. When the safety device is locked in place, it is not possible to open the sash, but the ventilation function of the window will still work. The steel security lock fits almost the entire current range of all standard VELUX roof windows, except top-hung windows (e.g. GPU/GPL/GHU/GPL). You can easily install the lock into the frame yourself.

    • Rod controls

If your VELUX roof window is hard to reach, you can purchase a 100-180cm telescopic rod (that allows you to open GGL and GGU centre-pivot roof windows). If this rod isn't long enough, there is an additional 100cm extension piece available for purchase.

  • Installing a blind
    • Can you help me find installation instructions

If you are looking for specific installation instructions, you should be able to find them on the relevant product pages. You can also go to our installation page, where you can find installation instructions for all of the products listed and sold in the e-shop. The instructions are provided in PDF format and for some products we also have installation walk-through videos.

    • How easy it is to install the blinds?

VELUX blinds are very easy to install thanks to the unique Pick&Click!® system. Under each VELUX product description you will find an easy to follow installation guide, or you can go directly to the installation page, where you will find installation instructions for all the products listed and sold in the e-shop. The instructions are provided in PDF format and some products also have installation walk-through videos.

    • Is there any difference between the installation of Itzala and VELUX blinds

Yes. The Pick&Click!® system is only available on VELUX roof windows and VELUX blinds.

    • I have a non-VELUX window, can I install a VELUX blind?

No. To ensure the perfect fit VELUX blinds are made specifically for VELUX roof windows. If you have a roof window made by either FAKRO, RoofLITE, Dakstra, Dakea or Keylite, you will still be able to find Itzala blinds that will fit your window in the e-shop. If your roof window is made by another manufacturer, you will have to contact that individual manufacturer for further information.

  • Miscellaneous
    • Do you have blinds for vertical and flat roof windows?

VELUX offers blinds for VELUX flat roof windows and also for vertical add on elements for VELUX roof windows, but unfortunately we don't offer these products in our shop.

    • Do you make custom made blinds?

VELUX offers many colours and designs for the many different kinds of blinds and windows, but we do not custom make blinds.

    • How do I identify the brand and size of my window?

To identify the brand, type and size of a window already installed in your home, look at the reference on the window plate at the top of your window. The window plates differ in appearance depending on the model of your window. For an illustration and explanation of a VELUX window plate, visit our "Size Finder", where you might use our size chart to identify the code for your VELUX roof window.

Itzala blinds not only fit VELUX and FAKRO roof windows, but Keylite, Dakstra, Dakea and RoofLITE as well. However, Keylite does not list the size on the identification plate. Keylite uses a production number. You will need to measure the internal pane size and use this chart to find the correct code.

    • How do I clean my blind?

Exact cleaning procedures of course depends on the type of blind you choose. However, most VELUX blinds are made of a durable, dirt-repelling fabric that can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Cleaning instructions are included when you receive your product.

    • Do you supply samples of the blind material?

Yes, but only for VELUX blinds. Blind samples can be very helpful in the decision-making process and can be found on the cloth samples page.

    • Are your VELUX blinds genuine?

Yes, Roofwindowblinds.ie trading as Altaterra Ltd. is an authorised VELUX reseller. Our VELUX blinds are genuine and delivered directly from VELUX.

    • Do you have blinds for Roto windows?

No. We provide genuine VELUX blinds for VELUX roof windows and Itzala blinds for roof windows made by VELUX, FAKRO, RoofLITE, Dakstra, Keylite and Dakea.

    • What windows are your Itzala blinds compatible with?

Itzala blinds are compatible with windows made by VELUX, FAKRO, RoofLITE, Dakstra, Keylite and Dakea. The Itzala awning blind however is only compatible with VELUX roof windows.

  • Remote controlled blinds
    • When should I select electrically operated blinds?

VELUX electrically operated blinds are a perfect match for VELUX electric roof windows and fit these perfectly. However, if you don't have an electrically operated window, but would like to install an electrically operated blind, you simply need to add a KUX 110 control system to your order as well. As the blind is remote controlled, this kind of blind is great for windows that are out of reach or where you expect to adjust the incoming light often.

Please note that the electrical blind does not come with a remote control of its own. To control the blind, you either use the same remote that you also use for your VELUX window or the remote that is included in the KUX 110 control system.

    • When should I select solar powered blinds?

VELUX solar powered blinds are a perfect match for VELUX manually operated roof windows and for VELUX solar powered roof windows. As the blind comes with a remote control and has a battery that is charged by the sun, it is also ideal for windows that are hard to reach or where you want to adjust the incoming light often. No wiring needed.

    • What do I have to take into consideration when thinking of purchasing a non-manual VELUX blind?

When thinking about purchasing a non-manual blind, there are a number of factors you may want to consider.

      1. Only genuine VELUX blinds are available with remote control operation. All Itzala blinds are manually operated.

      2. VELUX blinds are also available in an electrically operated or solar operated version. Both are very practical as they allow you to adjust the blinds placement with ease, putting complete daylight control right at your fingertips. Remote control blinds are highly recommended for windows that are out-of-reach, in an extension or high up in a loft, and for windows where you expect to adjust the position of the blind often.

Electrically operated blinds are only suitable for VELUX INTEGRA® electric roof windows. Solar powered blinds fit all manually operated VELUX roof windows and also all solar powered VELUX INTEGRA® roof windows.

Both types of blinds are remote controlled, but can, apart from the tilting feature on the electrically operated VELUX venetian blind, also be manually operated. The remote control for the electrically operated blind is battery powered. The solar powered blind is powered by an energy-saving, solar-rechargeable battery, which is good for up to 600 operations even if there is no sun for recharging. Electrically operated blinds are also available with io-homecontrol® for intelligent features, such as scheduling.

      3. Non manual blinds are available in multiple versions. Blackout blinds and Roller blinds are available in electrically operated or solar powered versions. Venetian blinds only come in manually operated and electrically operated versions. Awning blinds are available in manually operated or solar powered versions. Pleated blinds are only available in a manually operated version. Both blinds are remote controlled, but can, apart from the tilting feature on the electrically operated VELUX venetian blind, also be manually operated.

    • What do I have to take into consideration when thinking of purchasing a VELUX insect screen?

The main purpose of the VELUX insect screen is to keep all unwanted visitors such as flies and insects at bay while allowing you to enjoy fresh air from an open roof window. VELUX insect screens cover the whole window area and are made of a durable transparent net fabric that won't obstruct your view. As a result, there are two things to be aware of when choosing a VELUX insect screen.

      1. You will need an additional blind if you want to control the amount of daylight coming in to your room. VELUX insect screens can easily be combined with a VELUX blind for daylight regulation.

      2. The VELUX insect screen is installed onto the interior wall, not directly onto the window. When ordering an insect screen, measure the width of the window opening on the interior wall to find the correct size insect screen. Insect screens are available in various widths with the following three heights: 1600 mm, 2000 mm and 2400 mm. The height, but not the width, is adjustable. If you have a window with vertical elements, you will need two insect screens and an additional installation kit. Please note: In most cases you will need to cut the insect screen to match the size of your window opening.
